Professor Refaat Alareer was a scholar of early modern literature, poet, and activist who taught creative writing at the Islamic University of Gaza. On December 6, 2023, he was killed by an Israeli airstrike at his home in Northern Gaza along with several of his relatives. Shortly before his death, Professor Alareer wrote the poem featured on this print.
