Lou Sullivan was a trans pioneer and AIDS activist, who used his day job as a printer to create and disseminate information for the growing trans community. His diaries, selections of which have been published under the title "We Both Laughed in pleasure," offer a delightful and moving picture of Lou's difficult but joyful life as a gay trans man during the AIDS crisis.
Lou wrote the poem in this print shortly before his long-awaited top surgery in 1980. It is printed in vivid red or subtle silver besides a photopolymer plate illustration of Lou and his pet parakeet.
